I have had some wonderful sweetest day gifts and many meaningful wishes
as well. But yesterday was the best.
My mother has dementia… some days are good, and some days she thinks
her face is on the $20 bill. So, I live
with her.
Yesterday morning, I rose early as I had obligations outside of the
home. Knowing it was Sweetest Day, I
made her a beautiful Zentangle card, wishing her a happy Sweetest Day on the
back of it. I added a touch of some
chocolate on top of the card and laid it near her morning pills, where she
would find it, and left.
Later that day, I came home, greeted mom and went on about my usual
chores… then I seen something on the kitchen table. Almost in the same place I left her card that
morning… there was a different card.
Opening it, I seen it was a Sweetest Day card my 90-year-old mother had
written for me.
To all the children, no matter what your age, a card from your mother
is always special. But as we adult
children start to see the frailties in our own lives, not to mention in our parents
lives, we appreciate even the little things more. Many of my friends have lost one or sadly,
both of their parents… or their parents are in the deeper clutches of dementia
(as I know my mom will be too)… and what they would give for a sweet card from
their moms and dads.
So, I am sharing mine with you.
You know your mom or dad would want you to know how much they love you….
So read mine (take the name ‘Janie’ out – that’s what mom calls me) and add
yours… change the words to make your own... close your eyes and reminisce... hearing the sweetest love wishes in the world…from your parents!
Happy Sweetest Day to all.
Thank you GG!!
