THE BRAIN!

Quick Brain Test (answer at end) Mary’s parents had 4 children named: Nana, Nene and Nini.  What was the name of the fourth child?

Your Brain works 24/7!  It’s faster than any computer and is divided into the following parts.

The largest part of the Brain is called the Cerebrum.  It stores the short and long-term memories and helps in decision-making process.  The Cerebrum is divided into the right side and the left side as shown in the picture above.

The Cerebellum is the much smaller than the Cerebrum.  This part of the brain control balance and muscle coordination.  It tells your muscles what to do.

The Brain Stem connects the Brain to the spinal cord.  It controls the heart, lungs and stomach.  It keeps the blood pumping, breathing and your digestive system working.

The Pituitary Gland is tiny… about the size of a pea and makes hormones that help you grow.

The Hypothalamus takes care of your body’s temperature.  It tells your body when to sweat or shiver.

The Amygdala is close to the size of an almond, but it controls emotion!  It helps you read emotional clues in someone’s face, as well.

The Brain is made up of about 100 billion Neurons.  These are the nerve cells that send and receive chemical and electrical messages from around your body.  It processes 70,000 thoughts.  New Neurons are created every time you learn something new! These messages move 268 MPH!!

Your Brain is 75% water and uses 20% of the oxygen in your blood. It contains 100,000 miles of blood vessels.

So exercise your brain and grow new Neurons…. Try something NEW!  Oh, and the answer to the brain questions is … Mary!  Happy Birthday new Neuron!
